Fetal Infant Mortality Review
(FIMR)
FIMR is a community-oriented process that reviews the circumstances surrounding a fetal or infant death to improve maternal and infant health outcomes.
A multidisciplinary community team examines confidential, de-identified cases of fetal and infant deaths. Reviews help teams understand the “how” and “why” surrounding a death to prevent future deaths.
FIMR is:
-
A strategy to close the gap in health disparities at the community level
-
A timely and valuable source of information about changing health care systems and how they affect real families trying to access them
-
A form of continuous quality improvement that allows communities to assess the performance of systems and the impact of changes in those systems
-
A voice for local families who have lost their baby
-
A tool that helps local health officials implement policies to safeguard families
-
A program endorsed by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation and the federal Maternal and Child Health Bureau
Seminole County is part of region 6 along with Flagler and Volusia Counties. The Healthy Start Coalition of Seminole County is tasked to coordinate the FIMR Community Action Group for Seminole County.
The Community Action Group is a panel of local experts, representatives of the local Department of Health, hospital, medical society and other health professional groups, community leaders, school, civic and business leaders and consumers implement the recommendations of the community Case Review Team.
The overall goal is to enhance the health and well-being of women, infants and families in our community by improving the resources and services available to them.
